James Thompson founded Dingle Horse Riding in 1989 as a small, family-run business based in Dun Quin on the Dingle Peninsula. “We began with eight horses and a lot of enthusiasm!” The idea was to cater to those tourists visiting the Dingle Peninsula who wanted to see the area on horseback rather than by cur, bus or bicycle.
In the following ten years, Dingle Horse Riding concentrated on improving trek routes, with a focus on full and half day routes designed to suit experienced riders. Superior treks designed to challenge riders earned Dingle Horse Riding a reputation as the top trekking centre in the area making it a destination for riders visiting Ireland.
By 1998 the operation had outgrown its base in Dun Quin. Purpose designed stables were built in Ballinaboula, just a mile outside of Dingle. The move to Ballinaboula enabled the further expansion of Dingle Horse Riding, and once settled into its new base of operations, it grew from strength to strength. The business expanded, building on its good reputation, and began to offer inclusive, residential and post to post horse riding holidays. Now, 15 years later, Dingle Horse Riding is one of the top destinations for horse riding holidays in Ireland.
